I’ve been meaning to do some scholarly research on whether DW’s Pirates of Caribbean ride has as distinct a smell as DL’s. It smells like old water, but in a comforting way. Like how I imagine pools smelled in the 1950s.
There is a smell! If I were to find myself spending some time in a damp, wooden barrel, it would smell like Pirates. Another notable Disney-made olfactory sensation: burning. I think the scent occurs in DL/DW Pirates, but it most certainly does as Alexandria burns in Spaceship Earth. It is pungent and ashen, but not smoky, sort of like how I imagine copper might smell if you tried to burn it using a magnifying glass on a sunny spot in your driveway when your mom’s not looking.

Did the seats bounce up and down on the WDW version? It did at Disneyland, which felt very strange.
Sure did. Is the whip part under the seats new, too? My brother and I couldn’t remember. Matter of fact, I didn’t remember most of it. The ride closed in ‘94, which means that the oldest I could’ve been was eight, which puts me right at that age of arbitrary fears, which means the odd, lumbering gait of the elephant would’ve totally turned me off, resulting in pretending there was something more worthy of my attention on the floor.

hipsters. did you see taylor swift?
There is a quote on the wall of The American Adventure from Will Rogers, stating, “Nobody wants to be called common people, especially common people.” Now, does saying you’re not a common person make you more of a common person? Also, I did not, but I did point out to my brother where I remarked on “that girl’s nice hair” and you told me her name was Taylor Swift.
