They always say - or maybe this is just my mother - that if you want someone to return your call, go use the restroom. On the day I decided to move west, I was offered - and accepted - a job locally at the advertising agency where my dad has worked since I was 3. I was reminded of the first cover letter I wrote to them, 12 years ago, when I felt I was woefully destitute. It reads as if English is my second language. I will bold the finer parts:
Dear whoever is reading,
Being a 12 year old female, money is on high demand. For clothes, accessories, and not to mention Christmas coming up. Money (in a girls perspective) is part of life. If you don’t have it you can’t enjoy the simple pleasures of shopping and eating lunch with friends. But I can’t think of money in only that way. In my house I’m known as the banker. Family members in my house have to pay for the house keeper and have an occasional party with my money. Although it’s always given back about 3 weeks later. Soon, I’m afraid I’ll have to be the bankee and borrow money from my parents. If I were 16 I would have a job at McDonalds but I am not so I ask your help. Please give me a commercial or ad to do because I NEED A JOB.
I’ve had much experience with advertising. I’ve been in the TV GUIDE, twice. Therefore I’m good at modeling. Not bragging on myself because I think that is an obnoxious and immature thing to do. If you want someone to brag on me talk to my dad (although I don’t think that’s a good idea). I did one radio commercial and it only took 3 takes before it was perfect. Not to brag there either. My hand was on the back of the color pencil package for Dixon/Prang. Also 2 picture that I colored for Prang were on at least two of their ads. Now I guess I should say why I’m good for some of the accounts FHB works with.
1. ABC liquor- Even though I’m not old enough to drink I could do an ad or commercial to talk about the dangers of drinking under age.
2. Central Florida News 13- I watch the show occasionally and I’m up to date with what’s going on in my community because of them.
3. Chep USA- Thanks to them I can get what I need from stores.
4. Dixon- I have done ads for them and they have been used. I also use their products most of the time.
5. Florida Department of Citrus- One of my favorite times of year is when I have a nice juicy orange or tangerine. The only Citrus I don’t like is Grapefruit, but about 3 times a year I have a craving for one. I was also born in ORANGE County.
6. Florida Hospital- Never been there but I was a cancer child in one of my ads for Channel 6. Also sort of along the same lines, I want to be a veterinarian so I know something about surgery.
7. Kennedy Space Center- I’ve been there many times and enjoyed it. I had to help my dad with a conference with KSC for the 10th.
8. McDonalds- Ate there almost every year of my childhood. Now I don’t eat Happy Meals but I occasionally have a BIG MAC. My dad had a picture made with a real Ronald McDonald. I personally don’t like clowns. I guess I’m just out of that clown loving stage.
9. Orlando Sentinel- I’m not at that age where reading the paper is a crucial part of daily life. But I do read the comics and was in the TV Guide. Also my violin teacher’s friend works for the Orlando Sentinel.
10. Stein Mart- Shopped in there tons of times and bought and saw cool and interesting stuff.
11. TWC- Now I have no idea how people can’t have a TV. A little bit of TV each day is as crucial to me as adults reading the newspaper.
12. Toyota- I recently rode a Ski Boat and it was one of the most fun things I had done in a while.
13. Valencia- Although I won’t go there or know much about it, except it was a pretty good looking campus, I could still do an ad for it.
The end of all of that. So I hope that this paper gives me some money. And thanks for reading the problems of my life. So until my next money problem. Thanks and have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
